Latest rejection of May's Brexit deal opens up several scenarios

With no-deal exit likely to be thrown out, move for extension, second referendum may be back in play

DAILY Mail cartoonist Paul Thomas' slug line in a cartoon for the Daily Mail summed up Britain's Brexit crisis: "At last, the country is united - NOBODY knows what'll happen next."

Indeed, following another overwhelming defeat for beleaguered Theresa May's withdrawal deal from the European Union (EU), the only certainty is uncertainty.

In the face of these concerns, the markets were remarkably stable. The pound was slightly up and UK and European markets flat on expectations that Britain will receive an extension of about three months after the official Brexit date of March 29.
