Spring Festival
Chinese New Year isn't over yet, and this weekend's Wan Qing Festival of Spring keeps the celebrations going. A highlight of this annual festival, held at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, is the Festival of Spring Prosperity Toss on Feb 16 - the signature mass outdoor lohei, which is open to all. Those who like working with their hands can learn how to make festive paper sculptures inspired by the art of traditional Chinese paper cutting; paint a miniature mask like those worn by Chinese opera performers; or learn how to make pouches using cheongsam fabric at an upcycling workshop. The God of Fortune will also be around for you to rub shoulders with, to ensure an auspicious year ahead. And of course, no Chinese New Year celebration would be complete without a lion dance performance.
Wan Qing Festival of Spring 2019, is on Feb 16 and 17, from 10.30am to 9.30pm, at Sun Yat Sen Nanyang, 12 Tai Gin Road. Admission is free.
