Art versus Artist
In the wake of #MeToo controversies involving high-profile artists (Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Woody Allen and others), people have been asking pertinent questions: "Is it okay to enjoy good art made by bad people? Can one separate the art from the artist? Is it fair to say the art was made at the partial expense of the artist's victims?"
Heather, a new play produced by theatre company Adeeb&Shai, centres on a successful writer (Karen Tan) of a children's fantasy book series. Her books are popular for their classic narratives of good and evil, with good always winning out in the end. But rumours surface about the writer, casting doubts about her own moral integrity. The question that emerges is, what matters more - the story or the storyteller?
Heather runs from Oct 24 to 27 at the Gateway Theatre Blackbox. Tickets from peatix.com
