THE TITLE OF THE PLAY is provocative: This Is What Happens To Pretty Girls. The subject matter is even more so: the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment. Theatre company Pangdemonium has a long history of staging highly polished, hard-hitting plays. And this latest script by Ken Kwek is set to challenge audiences with its examination of sexual harassment in Singapore.

Kwek, a former journalist, spoke to over 100 women and men about their experiences and concluded that "sexism and sexual harassment is a widespread problem in Singapore... But due to a culture of shame and passivity, many people see sexual misconduct as something that needs to be buried rather than discussed."

Possibly in line with the collectivist culture of Asian families, "several interviewees said their experiences became a source of shame for their families, who discouraged them from seeking redress or speaking out publicly."
