Grandma's Cooking
Remember Mrs Lee's Cookbook - the classic collection of Peranakan and Asian recipes by Mrs Lee Chin Koon, mother of the late Lee Kuan Yew? Although it was out of print, Mrs Lee's granddaughter, Shermay reworked the heirloom recipes into The New Mrs Lee's Cookbook: Volume 1 and Volume 2, which were launched in 2003 and 2004, respectively. The two books are now being relaunched by popular demand, with Vol 1 featuring Peranakan dishes, and Vol 2 filled with Chinese, Malay and Eurasian dishes.
But if cooking is a hassle, you can sample dishes from the cookbooks at Shangri-La Hotel every Tuesday for dinner. That's when The Line serves up 15 specially curated dishes, such as Sambal Udang and Itek Tim in addition to the wide buffet spread.
Grandma's Kitchen at The Line at Shangri-La Singapore, S$88++ per adult, is available every Tues night from now till April 2020. The New Mrs Lee's Cookbook, S$60, is also available at major bookstores.
