Singapore artists at Venice Biennale
SINGAPORE made a mini splash at the 60th Venice Biennale, with a record number of local artists representing the city-state at the prestigious art event. We spoke to five of them in Venice – Robert Zhao Renhui, Priyageetha Dia, Sim Chiyin, Charmaine Poh and Deepa Khanna Sobti – who shared their thoughts about their works. These mostly deal with topical issues such as human migration and the environment. The remaining four Singaporeans are artist-pioneers such as Chua Mia Tee who is now 93, and the late Georgette Chen, Lim Mu Hue and Lai Foong Moi.
