SPH announces appointments of two deputy CEOs
MAINBOARD-LISTED Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH) on Tuesday announced the appointments of two deputy chief executives - Patrick Daniel and Anthony Tan - and Warren Fernandez as editor-in-chief of the company's English/Malay/Tamil Media (EMTM) group with effect from July 1.
Both Mr Daniel, 61, and Mr Tan, 43, will report to SPH chief executive Alan Chan.
Mr Daniel, who has held various appointments with SPH and became EMTM's editor-in-chief in January 2007, will continue to manage the EMTM group as well as oversee marketing, digital, information technology, legal/secretariat, corporate communications and corporate social responsibility, and risk management.
Mr Fernandez, 50, will take over as editor-in-chief of EMTM while continuing to be editor of The Straits Times.
Sumiko Tan, 52, currently deputy editor of The Straits Times, will be the flagship paper's executive editor.
Ignatius Low, 43, deputy editor of The Straits Times and head of SPH's Information Resource Centre (IRC), will take over as managing editor of EMTM. He will continue as head of the IRC.
On his part, Mr Tan will oversee the production, circulation, corporate development, finance, human resources and administration divisions, and will continue to helm the Chinese Media Group (CMG) and Media Strategy & Analytics division (MSA). He joined SPH in February 2015 and was formerly deputy secretary (policy) with the Ministry of Health.
Said Mr Chan: "Both Patrick and Anthony are key members of the senior management team. Patrick is a media veteran with 30 years of experience in SPH while Anthony has brought with him fresh perspectives and new ideas since joining us. I have every confidence that they will be able to work closely with me to address the challenges and opportunities in our industry and steer SPH to greater heights."
Looking forward to his new role, Mr Daniel said: "Our media business has withstood the onslaught of many waves of digital change and innovation. But we have to speed up our transformation into a truly multi-media, multi-platform organisation that delivers value to our many customers."
On his new appointment, Mr Tan said: "Since joining SPH more than a year ago, I have benefited from working with my committed and talented colleagues from different divisions on various products and projects. I am confident that I can harness the strengths of everyone and help SPH seize every opportunity to innovate, grow and excel."
