Hotel, restaurant and cafe suppliers' trade show postponed to 2022

THE specialist industry trade show for hotel, restaurant and cafe suppliers, FHA-HoReCa, will be postponed by two years to 2022, organiser Informa Markets said on Thursday.

The event was originally slated to take place at the Singapore Expo from March 3-6 this year, but was postponed to July 13-16 due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

As the global hospitality and tourism industries are still struggling to deal with the pandemic, the event has been postponed a second time and will take place on May 10-13, 2022 instead, with the venue unchanged.

FHA-HoReCa is an expansion of the biennial Food&HotelAsia (FHA) trade event, which was to be split into two shows this year, the other being FHA-Food & Beverage. As announced previously, FHA-Food & Beverage has been postponed to March 2-5, 2021 at Singapore Expo.

Martyn Cox, Singapore event director for hospitality, food and beverage at Informa Markets, the organiser, said: "It is heartening to see positive signs that recovery has started in some domestic markets; however, it will be a while longer before a full rebound of the international hospitality and tourism sectors can materialise."

Informa Markets will use the extra time to ensure that the 2022 edition of FHA-HoReCA will "more than make up for its absence this year", he said, adding that it will continue to work on alternative ways to connect the global community online while live experiences are not possible.

Said Adeline Chow, the chairperson of the Singapore Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers & Suppliers (SAFEMS): "Informa's decision to cancel the 2020 edition of FHA-HoReCa and the return in 2022 will give the industry and its customers time to stabilise and reorganise post Covid-19. SAFEMS expects the 2022 edition to be better supported with participants and visitors, with time for the economy to recover."
