Leader of the Opposition to lead scrutiny of government, receive confidential briefings
Position comes with double an elected MP's allowance; Pritam Singh to donate half of it to charitable and other causes

AMONG other duties, Singapore's new Leader of the Opposition will take the lead in presenting alternative views in parliamentary debates, and may be called upon to attend official state functions, said the Office of the Speaker of Parliament and Office of the Leader of the House in a joint statement on Tuesday.
He will get longer speaking durations in Parliament; confidential briefings; and double the allowance of a regular Member of Parliament (MP).
The statement set out the duties and parliamentary privileges of the role, to be held by Workers' Party (WP) chief and Aljunied GRC MP-elect Pritam Singh.
