Two new candidates join PAP team in Ang Mo Kio GRC
TWO new candidates will join Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's People's Action Party (PAP) team to contest Ang Mo Kio group representation constituency (GRC) in the upcoming General Election.
Introduced in an online press conference on Monday morning, the PAP's team for Ang Mo Kio GRC in GE2020 comprises incumbents Mr Lee, Gan Thiam Poh, Darryl David, and two new candidates - lawyer Nadia Ahmad Samdin, and former public servant Ng Ling Ling.
Three incumbent PAP MPs for Ang Mo Kio will not be contesting there - Koh Poh Koon, Ang Hin Kee, and Intan Azura Mokhtar. Mr Lee, who is PAP secretary-general, said the party's plans for these three MPs will be announced later.
At the start of the slate's introduction, Mr Lee gave a rundown of some of Ang Mo Kio Town Council's achievements in recent years, but noted that the town council currently includes Sengkang West single member constituency (SMC), which has been dissolved and carved up between Ang Mo Kio GRC and the new Sengkang GRC for this election.
So after the election, a new Ang Mo Kio Town Council will be formed, he said. It will include Yio Chu Kang SMC and Kebun Baru SMC, for a total of seven MPs in one town council, assuming that all three constituencies are won by PAP candidates.
Apart from his constituents in Ang Mo Kio, Mr Lee appealed to voters in Yio Chu Kang SMC and Kebun Baru SMC to support the PAP as well, so that the new town council can work towards building a better town for all.
