GE2015: PAP wins Ang Mo Kio GRC with resounding 78.6% of the vote
[SINGAPORE]The six-member team led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong scored a resounding victory in the Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC) with 78.6 per cent of votes this morning.
This marked a significant 9.3 per cent improvement in winning margin for the PAP team in the GRC, compared with the 69.3 per cent the PAP team garnered four years ago. The result was, at that time, the best performance for a GRC.
The improvement is seen as a major endorsement for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who has become the poster boy for the PAP during the election hustings.
A total of 135,115 valid votes went to the PAP, while 36,711 or 21.4 per cent went to the Reform Party.
PM Lee said in his victory speech that his team is thankful, happy, yet "humbled by the results".
He added that his team will work together with residents to improve their homes and to represent their voices in parliament. "Tomorrow will be better than today. SG100 will be better than today."
PAP's team comprises Ang Hin Kee, Intan Azura Mohktar, Gan Thiam Poh, Darryl David and Koh Poh Koon - squaring off against Reform Party's Roy Ngerng, M Ravi, Osman Sulaiman, Gilbert Goh, Siva Chandran and Jesse Loo.
This is Mr Lee's third time leading the PAP into electoral battle in the past 11 years of helming the party as its secretary-general and being the country's prime minister.
