GE2020: PAP defeats SDP in Marsiling-Yew Tee with 63.18% of votes
THE People's Action Party (PAP) retained its seats in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC in the 2020 General Election, defeating the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) with 63.18 per cent of valid votes.
The SDP garnered 36.82 of the vote share.
PAP got 69,722 votes while the SDP received 40,641. Rejected votes numbered 2,097.
The PAP team comprises National Development Minister Lawrence Wong, Minister of State for National Development and Manpower Zaqy Mohamad, backbencher Alex Yam and new face Hany Soh.
The SDP team that ran against them is made up of Damanhuri Abas, Benjamin Pwee, Bryan Lim Boon Heng and Khung Wai Yeen.
In 2015, when it was newly formed, Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC also saw a straight fight between the PAP and SDP. The PAP team, jointly headed by Halimah Yacob and Mr Wong, garnered 68.73 per cent of the valid votes. SDP's team comprising Mr Lim, Mr Damanhuri, John Tan and Wong Souk Yee received 31.27 per cent.
