Winning Architecture
Will it be fourth time lucky for Singapore to win the Building of the Year award at the annual World Architecture Festival (WAF)? This year's shortlisted finalists from Singapore include the National University of Singapore School of Design & Environment; mixed use development Oasis Terrace; Grace Baptist Church; My First Skool at Segar Gardens; Novena Church; DUO, and the National University Centre of Oral Health Singapore.
Also in the running is Jewel Changi Airport by Safdie Architects. Incidentally, Qatar's Hamad International Airport, which Qatar Airways chief Akbar Al Baker accused Jewel of copying, isn't in the running.
The WAF awards are much like the Academy Awards but for architecture. Gardens by the Bay won Building of the Year in 2012, and The Interlace and Kampung Admiralty won the same awards in 2015 and 2018 respectively.
