FINGER FOOD. NOTHING too soupy maybe, in case people get too excited. If you can be bothered, how about colour coding your dishes? Think white rice or blue-pea coloured rice and bright red curries. Menu planning for election night is a cinch with a bit of imagination or some creative takeaway and deliveries. Here are some suggestions.

MOD-SIN

Dig into a sharing menu of all things modern Singaporean at Roketto, where chef-owner Willin Low suggests some of his creations such as Scallop Her Kiao with spicy marmite peanut butter (S$9.80), Mushroom & Cheese Roti Prata Pizza (S$13.80), Krapow Bee Tai Mak (S$17.20), Oyster Omelette Spaghetti (S$22.80) or Hae Bee Hiam Dried Scallops & Prawns Spaghetti (S$22.80). Wash it down with its takeaway bottled cocktail inspired by the Singapore Sling and renamed Slinging Lion. Alternatively, you can chill out at Roketto itself, where you can sip on specially created election-inspired cocktails such as So Very White - a twist on the gin fizz with the addition of coconut cream, or True Blue Sling, made with lychee liqueur and blue curacao. Staff will also keep you updated on election results through the night.

HERITAGE FOOD

Nothing says Singaporean better than our heritage cuisine which brings together traditional recipes from all the different cultures that make up our national identity. At Kin, Chef Damian D'Silva has launched new additions to his takeaway and delivery programme with dishes such as Kerabu Ikan Goreng, Gulai and Red Debal with Heritage Chicken. Check out also the Javanese specialty Opor Ayam - twice cooked chicken in rich coconut milk and rempah. Spice things up even more with the homemade sambal sampler that will raise your temperature more than the nail biting election action on TV.

POPIAH PARTY

And why not? Here's another Singaporean tradition as you get together to roll these white crepes with braised turnip and bambooshoots topped with all manner of garnishes. At Po, enjoy a hands-on meal and some lively discussion with its Fresh Flower Crab Popiah Platter featuring locally-sourced crabs from Crab Lovers Farm. For variety, add the Barramundi Salad made with locally sourced fish from Kuhlbarra, or Po's signature Carabinero Prawns and Konbu Mee - its riff on hawker favourite Hokkien Mee.

Italian restaurant Zafferano offers up its own Election Day contribution with a dessert in the colours of the Singapore flag. Buffalo 'Mozzarella' soft cheesecake, Japanese strawberry, 'Cutrera' extra virgin olive oil is presented in red and white, and is served free to all lunch guests on Election Day. But you'll need to reserve it in advance by mentioning "election day" when making your reservation. You'll get the cheesecake free with a minimum spend of S$100 for delivery (lunch and dinner).

Aussie-Italian eatery Salted & Hung joins in the election fever with a thoughtfully put together 'Election Night Family Meal' to save you the hassle of thinking about what to eat after voting. The S$178 package feeds four to six people and is only available on Jul 10. EAT MEAT-FREE

If too much red meat gets your heart pumping, go slow with some meat-free options from Prive. While its founder Yuan Oei isn't planning an election party per se, he recommends combining Prive delivery food with his favourite cocktails from Gudsht like its Unicorn Barf, Red Sangrila Utama and Deeznuts. Enjoy them with Pan-Fried Impossible Gyoza (S$13), Plant-Based Mushroom Swiss Burger (S$22.50) and Heura 'Chicken Rice'.
