Jojo Rabbit is a dark horse in this year's Oscar race - considering it's a black comedy and not the usual heavy drama or biopic that sweeps nominations. Directed by Kiwi filmmaker Taika Waitit (Thor: Ragnarok), it's a funny and heartwarming war drama as seen through the eyes of its titular child protagonist. Set in Germany during World War II, the plot revolves around Johannes 'Jojo' Betzler (Roman Griffin Davis), a 10-year-old spiring Nazi whose imaginary friend is none other than Adolf Hitler (played with comic effect by Waitit). The young boy is loyal to the Fuhrer and fearful of Jews; until he realises there's one hiding in his attic. The ensemble cast also includes Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Sam Rockwell and a scene-stealing Scarlett Johansson.
