SENTOSA Development Corporation (SDC), the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and SG Enable have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to create fair employment and more inclusive workspaces for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The three-year MOU will also facilitate more social opportunities for PWDs, as well as families with children living in public rental housing units, in particular those supported under the Community Link (ComLink) Initiative.

The three parties said: “The tri-party agreement aims to establish partnerships and business opportunities to encourage positive action towards a more inclusive society.”

SDC and its partners will tap SG Enable’s programmes to train employees and provide mentorship and internship opportunities to PWDs and ComLink families. It will also open up business opportunities for the handicrafts made by the PWDs, for example.

Every year, SDC and its partners will open up Sentosa’s attractions to more than 1,000 beneficiaries, that is, ComLink families, PWDs and their caregivers. Under this year’s Sentosa Care Week in late September, the island offered inclusive spaces, programmes and services for these visitors.

Thien Kwee Eng, chief executive officer of SDC, said: “As an employer, a business and a tourism destination, SDC and our island partners are committed to taking steps to support underprivileged groups, and becoming a forerunner in the tourism industry in driving inclusivity.”
