Is it finally 'over' for Donald Trump?
The American president's recent moves, including his populist agenda and lack of strategy to tackle the pandemic, are hurting the US economy and his re-election bid.
VETERAN White House correspondents have been comparing the current mood in Washington to the final days in office of two one-term presidents, Democrat Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) and Republican George H W Bush (1989-1993).
In both cases, each of the two presidents' last year in office was marked by an economic downturn and growing public anxiety about the direction in which the country was moving.
So when President Carter's April 1980 Iran hostage rescue mission ended in a disaster, highlighting a major national security failure, and when President Bush during a photo opportunity during his 1992 campaign said he was "amazed" at encountering supermarket scanners for the first time, demonstrating that he was an elitist and out of touch with the American people, the emerging consensus in Washington was, "It is over, guys!"
