One early lesson we could draw thus far is that misinformation spreads fear - and fear impacts anxiety and decision-making. If the markets can offer any indication of public sentiment, there appears to be growing confidence that we can overcome this quickly, thanks to the region's coordinated efforts to help contain the epidemic. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's recent address to the nation is also a sure sign of the strength of Singapore's risk communication and crisis preparedness. In terms of the potential economic impact of the crisis, one important lesson for investors is to stay calm and ignore the short-term noise when making investment decisions. That doesn't mean things can't get worse, but we have reason to be optimistic despite the uncertainty.
