Singapore theatre returns in full force
At least 10 shows are opening in a packed October. But some are forgoing the live stage entirely.
AFTER 19 months of cancellations and postponements, the curtains are finally going up on new productions by Singapore's top theatre companies. This October alone, at least 10 shows are opening physically and virtually, creating a jam-packed month for theatre lovers.
The past year-and-a-half has seen the industry thinning out despite the support packages given out by the government. Several practitioners have left the industry because of the dearth of opportunities and income. Some may never come back.
We speak with five practitioners about their upcoming shows, as well as the struggles and solutions of creating art in a pandemic.
