Drawing A Link To The Past
Singapore's pioneering artists tell the nation's history through their works.
FOR MORE THAN 10 years as a museum educator and programmer at the National Gallery Singapore and National Museum of Singapore, Rachel Chen watched as visitors gazed in fascination at the art in the exhibition galleries. Then she had an epiphany.
"Why not extend the experience and bring history to life by taking people on a walk through places where artists drew their inspiration, and discover Singapore's history through their works?" asks Ms Chen, founder of Culture Curious Singapore Tours.
During Singapore Art Week in December 2018, she launched Picturing Places of Colonial Singapore - a three-hour tour through the Civic District and Chinatown to discover the history and architecture of the buildings in these areas.
